Velma Metoyer, 90, died on or about June 25, 2008. A wake with 7:00 PM rosary will be on Monday June 30th 2008. Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at St Anthony’s Church Natchitoches, LA with burial at St Augustine Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Winnfield Funeral Home. Service for Franklin “Frank” Sylvia, age 91, of Alexandria, will be held in Alexandria from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. of June 11, 2008 under the directions of Winnfield Funeral Home. Franklin died at 3:55 a.m., June 8, 2008 in Alexandria. He was born July 30, 1916 in Isle Brevelle. He was preceded in death by his parents Vigar and Laocadia Sylvie and two brothers, Christophe and Mark Sylvie. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WW II. After leaving the service Franklin tried farming but eventually went back to his true calling, cooking. His civilian cooking skills developed at Manhattan Café and eventually he moved on to Head Chefs positions at Herbie K`s, Murphy`s, and Plantation Manor restaurants. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed hunting, fishing spending time with his family. Franklin was a superb Whist and Domino player. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 70 years, Beatrice Sarpy Sylvia; daughter, Virginia Nell Fontes (Paul); sons, Joseph Metoyer (Yevonne), Franklin “Frank/Pootie” Sylvia Jr. (Margie), Roqueland “Rocky” Sylvia (Idell), Phillip Sylvia (Jung Neem), Christopher Sylvia (Laney), Gerard Sylvia (Yolanda) two sisters; Laetter Lacour and Leocadia Lacour; twenty three grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Wednesday June 11, 2008 at Winnfield Funeral Home, Alexandria. Wake service and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at Saint Juliana Catholic Church, Alexandria, on June 12, 2008 at 10 a.m.. Burial will be at Saint Augustine Cemetery, Melrose, LA.
